December is when the city streets are filled with the aroma of mulled wine, and market stalls bend under the weight of gifts and delicious treats. When festive lights illuminate the streets and squares, the shops grow a few degrees warmer, the crowds increase daily, and collective patience is stretched ever so slightly.

And then there are those few familiar songs that follow us everywhere—from stall to stall, from mulled wine to knitted socks and homemade schnapps. The melodies from Mariah Carey to Wham and Bing Crosby weave through the season.

This festive period, known as Veseli December (Joyful December), is also a time to turn inward and seek our inner light.
