Chronicles of the city in museums

From the Maribor castle and international currents to the intimate stories of the oldest vine or hand-crafted puppets, explore how diverse communities have shaped the city's cultural history.

From aristocrats to industrialists, from students to unique individuals

Did you know that the famous inventor Nikola Tesla lived in Maribor? And this was right after he was ignominiously dismissed from the University of Graz as a student?

The Maribor Regional Museum is the city's chronicler champion, having celebrated its 120th anniversary and housing over 120,000 objects. Among the most beloved photographs is sure to be the one on the baroque castle staircase. The Maribor National Liberation Museum deals with the short and turbulent 20th century.

The Museum for One in the former Trafika is the smallest in Slovenia, full of stories of special people, while in the Maribor Puppet Museum, the puppet rabbit and the monastery mouse are the most well-known historical part of the city, connected to Lent, the former port on the Drava River, and the oldest grapevine in the world.
