With a Brush Through Time: Eduard Lind and the Life of Maribor's Citizens

In Cinema Partizan, part of the Maribor Regional Museum, an exceptional exhibition dedicated to the life and work of Eduard Lind (1827–1904), a renowned Maribor painter of the late 19th century, is on display.

Marking the 120th anniversary of his death, the exhibition offers a unique insight into the rich oeuvre of this portraitist, who masterfully immortalized the images of Maribor’s bourgeoisie and became a significant chronicler of his era.

Eduard Lind’s painting technique, celebrated for its photo-realistic precision, enabled him to rival contemporary photography. His portraits of mayors and prominent citizens, who were active in key city institutions, are now an essential part of Maribor's heritage. Beyond portraits, he also created sacred images, landscapes, and restoration works, positioning him as a versatile artist of his time.

The exhibition was curated by Dr. Valentina Bevc Varl, a curator and art historian, who, through years of research into Lind’s legacy, uncovered numerous new aspects of his work. A highlight of the exhibition is four previously unknown Lind paintings, now presented to the public for the first time. Complementing the exhibition is the monograph Eduard Lind, Painter of Maribor’s Bourgeoisie (1827–1904), which unveils fascinating details from his personal notebooks and provides a comprehensive overview of his artistic achievements.

The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Saturday, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
