Animals in Pictures and Puppets is a new collaboration between the Maribor Art Gallery, the Puppet Theatre Maribor, and the Maribor Library. This time, they are presenting a thematic exhibition on animals captured in artistic works and puppets from their collections.

Animals can be central characters in visual art or puppet performances. Friendly, frightening, lively, fable-inspired anthropomorphized, or purely animalistic, they often play a prominent role in art. Often, human appearance and nature remind us of an animal counterpart, and we recognize human traits and characteristics in animals.

This is precisely why their depictions are so frequent and vivid. It is no different in the book illustrations of literary works for children and young adults. The Maribor Library is also participating in the exhibition, contributing a selection of literary works.

These will complement and expand the selections from the rich archives of both public institutions: the UGM (Maribor Art Gallery) and the LGM (Puppet Theatre Maribor).
