Stage 4 of the Tour of Slovenia
Cycling spectacle in Maribor
The Tour of Slovenia is the biggest cycling event in the country and part of the UCI ProSeries. It consists of five stages, covering a total of 799.2 kilometers and 12,166 meters of elevation gain. The race attracts strong competition—from teams preparing for the major three-week races to those aiming for notable results specifically in Slovenia.
Among the competitors will be Slovenian continental teams striving to make their mark on the international cycling scene. This year, the race will feature five WorldTour teams, nine ProTeam squads, and five continental teams.
4. stage: Maribor – Golte
The fourth stage, 175.2 km long, will start in Maribor at the newly renovated Lent and pass through Slovenska Bistrica, Oplotnica, Zreče, Vitanje, and Mozirje. From there, the route leads towards Podvolovljek and Črnivec, featuring a demanding climb followed by a fast descent. The final part of the stage, from Rečica ob Savinji to the finish at the Golte ski resort, is predominantly uphill.
With over 3,500 meters of elevation gain, this is the most challenging stage of this year’s race. The early part of the route offers opportunities for breakaways, while the key moments will unfold on the final climb, where the best riders must take the initiative if they want to claim the leader’s green jersey.

"The course is great. Cycling fans want more of these stages, which can impact the general classification or at least create uncertainty in the final result. Such a route is also a challenge for sports directors, who must study it well—if you don't know it thoroughly, you might miscalculate the race strategy," said Andrej Hauptman, sports director of UAE Team Emirates XRG.
