The performance Toxic is based on the autofictional novel of the same name by dramaturge and writer Eva Mahkovic. This stylistically rich, thematically unpredictable, and densely associative text, in the stage adaptation and conceptual design by Nataša Matjašec Rošker, becomes an emotional score of highs and lows – a flow of thoughts, reflections, feelings, images, and pop culture references where the personal and collective, sacred and trivial, internal and external blend together.

Toxic is a dive into the mental and emotional world of a young urban woman who, in the labyrinth of modern life, searches for meaning, connection, and herself. In her enclosed garden (hortus conclusus), memories and everyday moments intertwine with hopes and disappointments, random conversations and deep reflections – all accompanied by TV shows, saints, icons, shopping, books, music, pain, friendships, and moments of joy.

Inspired by Montaigne’s brave self-examination and the radical physicality of Marina Abramović’s performances, Toxic cuts into the personal – into the body, thoughts, and emotions – without embellishment, opening space for reflection on what it means to be a woman, to be present, to be overwhelmed, to be sensitive.
