60. Festival Borštnikovo srečanje: Dust at the Former Casino

Who Are We Even Mourning?

Throughout history, the presence of the dead has been said to reveal itself through stopped clocks, bursting lightbulbs, sudden temperature shifts, and quiet visits from butterflies. On the street, we see the face of the deceased in a stranger. We notice unexplained shadows, feel phantom touches without source. A printer starts on its own. Photographs shift on the walls. Grief transcends our perception of reality – it cuts through it and reshapes it.
But who are we even mourning? A loved one? Times long gone? A future that will never come? Ourselves, as we once were? Beliefs about the world that will never come true?

Dust explores grief – and its aftermath – in the wake of two catastrophes: the personal loss of a loved one and the global ecological collapse. It is a double mourning: for what is lost within us and for what is disappearing beyond us.
Dust is an anxious prose chronicle of our deepest fears of loss.
