Transport: Odhod

60. Festival Borštnikovo srečanje: Transport: Departure at the Judgement Tower

An Age of Force and Speed

In the pursuit of economic growth and expanding living spaces, we have historically taken natural space from rivers – confining them into artificially shaped channels, believing we could control them. But a river forced into a narrow bed gains force and speed. With increasingly frequent extreme rainfall brought by climate change, nature begins to reclaim its path – reminding us that, despite human control, it still follows its own laws.

Through a personal and intimate narrative, the performance reflects the consequences of excessive exploitation of natural resources, which leads to fragile ecosystems and ecological imbalance. At the same time, it highlights the shortcomings of spatial planning, where careless infrastructure expansion increases environmental vulnerability. Departure becomes a powerful metaphor – not just of physical withdrawal, but a call to move away from destructive systems and toward more sustainable, conscious alternatives.

The performance is part of the international European project Transport (Creative Europe programme), initiated by Slovenian director Tin Grabnar. In the 2024/2025 season, it brings together six theatre houses from Slovenia (Ljubljana Puppet Theatre and Maribor Puppet Theatre), Poland (Białostocki Teatr Lalek), Estonia (Eesti Noorsooteater), Lithuania (Klaipėdos lėlių teatras), and the Czech Republic (Divadlo ALFA). The project is co-funded by the European Union.
