Pruning of the World's Oldest Grapevine
Tradition, Viticulture, and Friendship
Pruning the vine is one of the most important viticultural tasks, as it directly affects its growth and yield. However, the Pruning of the World's Oldest Grapevine is not just a vineyard practice but also a ceremonial protocol event.
On this occasion, the city of Maribor gifts scions of the World's Oldest Grapevine to selected partner cities, municipalities, and organizations in Slovenia and around the world, thus spreading its rich heritage. This traditional ritual symbolically marks the beginning of the new viticultural season and highlights the significance of the World's Oldest Grapevine as a living cultural monument of winemaking.
