Popular hiking and trip destination
Peat moors with their lakes are among the most attractive natural sights of Pohorje! The biggest moor of Pohorje Lovrenško Barje (or Lovrenška Jezera) is situated on the domed slope of the Planika Hill in the upper part of the streams Radoljna, Mislinja and Velke. The moor contains larger and smaller lakes, 20 in total. The moor Lovrenško Barje can be accessed from Maribor through the Drava Valley to Lovrenc na Pohorju, and then to Koča na Pesku. You can take a two-hour walk over the soft grass and moss of the peat moors, where you can observe the peat lakes and rare plants or learn how to orientate yourself in nature. This place also offers a beautiful view. These lakes are also attractive in winter, when you can ski around them on cross-country or backcountry skis. You can also rent them. No previous knowledge is required, you learn the basic movement on the go.
