Following the route of top-quality white wines
The Maribor wine road starts in the centre of Maribor by the Old Vine in the area of Lent. In the summer, the site hosts a two-week festival – the Lent Festival. The wine road leads through Kamnica with St. Urban at almost 600 m of altitude, Kalvarija, Mestni vrh, Piramida, Meljski hrib, Vodol, Malečnik and Celestrina all the way to Nebova. It touches the eastern edge of Slovenske Gorice – to Korena and Vurberk that stand above the River Drava and the Drava plain.
There is a lot to experience along the way. One of the events is also the Old Vine Festival in autumn which is the highlight in the series of events from pruning to St. Martin's Day celebrations dedicated to the Old Vine. On 11 November at 11.11 don’t miss the moment when must becomes wine. There is an official baptising ceremony in the centre of Maribor celebrating an official start of the largest St. Martin’s Day celebration in Slovenia. New wine tasting continues all night long.
High-quality and top-quality white wines are typical of vineyards and cellars along the respective wine road: Laški Rizling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Silvaner, Renski Rizling and Yellow Muscat.
